Outside Area
Our newly refurbished outside area looks amazing! We have really appreciated having the new flooring which is recommended for “Play Areas” as it is a “Geotextile Membrane Layer” which provides protection for children who take a tumble. The new house has been a real hit with the children with Molly saying all it needs now is a hoover! We have created a fort for imaginative role play and incorporated the sandpit into this area. The blue splat on the ground indicates the waterplay area and we are soon to have areas for children to draw, make music and socialise or just read a quite story. All the areas of learning have been catered for and extra boxes of resources are being put together to support the children’s play. Thanks goes to Paul & Martin for all the hard work they have put into making the outside area so special for the children.
New Staff Members
We have three new staff members at nursery. Suzie Goodhew is currently working in the Toddlers and is beginning an Apprenticeship in Early Years with us. Suzie has an open and bubbly character and she has fitted straight into her role in the Toddler room where the children love her cuddles! Sarah Cannings is currently working in our Pre-school room and she has recently achieved a BA (Hons) degree in Early Childhood Studies. We are really happy to have her here with us at nursery. Beth Balding came to the nursery as a student for work experience and loved being here so much she asked to be taken on as an Apprentice. Beth has been working in all our rooms so she can gain experience and cover for staff who are planning, report writing or ill.
Loren’s Absence
You may be aware that Loren has not been at nursery recently. Loren is currently undergoing medical treatment to help to combat a health issue which has meant that she has been unable to work. We are looking forward to welcoming Loren back to nursery in the near future but meanwhile we have allocated Gemma to Toddlers to ensure continuity for the children in this room. Gemma has taken on Loren’s key children and is doing observations on them for their profile and feed into the planning.
February Holiday Club
Our Holiday Club; which caters for children up to the age of eight, will be happening again during the half term holiday week from the 13th to the 17th February. Details of the fun activities are displayed on the Clubs board in the lobby above the signing in area. If you are interested in your child attending the holiday club simply ask Leanne or Laura for a registration form. Laura has taken on the role of Clubs leader and will be planning the activities for both the holiday clubs as well as the Breakfast and After School clubs. Thanks goes to Laura for taking on this role and her addictive enthusiasm for it.
Policies Update
Our nursery policies are working documents and as such are used to aid the smooth day to day running of the nursery. It is therefore important to review these policies and make sure they are working for us. Mini has been updating the policies and adding a few new ones e.g. Intimate Care, Outdoor Play, Whistle Blowing and Supporting Transition. Copies of the updated policies can be found in a file in the pull out draws under the signing in sheets. Please feel free to take the file home to read if you wish. We just ask that you sign to say you have taken the file and then return it when you have finished. Many thanks.
Our NEW Website
As with all new things Mini is having teething problems with putting information onto the website. With a little more help from the websites creator Mr Green she will soon have the Questionnaire results and photos of the new garden on there. We will also have our next newsletter on the website and will let you know it is available via a notice on your child’s room door.
Hand Gel
During these winter months it is essential that you use the hand gel provided (on the front desk next to the signing in sheets) before taking your child to their room. This will help to stop any new infections from entering the nursery. If your child does contract a sickness bug they must be kept away from nursery for a full 48 hours after they recover to ensure they do not pass it on.
Heating System
We have had several parents come to us recently concerned about the occasional smell of gas they have picked up on outside nursery. We had the gas safety inspector out on 27th January to check the boiler. We have been issued with a gas safety record which confirms that our gas boiler complies with the Gas Safety Regulations. The inspector has reassured us that the smell of gas is only present when the boiler turns on and the gas is being lit. This is as it should be and nothing can be done to prevent this from happening.
Many Thanks, Mini & Leanne
